Video walkthrough

This walkthrough uses the real DeanDesk interface with the fictional Northstar Academy demo school and a calm, AI-generated English voice. Payments and outside services are not connected in the demo.
The Surveys tab in the course sidebar is where you ask students for feedback, such as a unit check-in or an end-of-term reflection. Surveys aren’t graded. As the course teacher, you build them here and see the results as students respond.

The survey list

Open Surveys in the course sidebar. Each survey appears as a card showing:
  • its title and description
  • how many questions it has
  • Identified or Anonymous, depending on whether responses carry students’ names
  • Multiple submissions, when students can answer more than once
  • Due: with the due date, or No due date
You see Create Survey at the top of the page. Each card has an Analytics tag, a View Analytics button, and an Edit button.

Create a survey

Click Create Survey. Enter a Survey Title and Description, an optional due date and time, and add your questions. Questions can be multiple choice, a rating scale, or a short answer. Click Save Survey to publish it to the course. The Surveys guide covers the question builder and each question type in detail.

Change survey settings

1

Open the survey

Click Edit on the survey’s card, or on its analytics page.
2

Adjust the details and settings

Change the title, description, due date, or questions. Under Survey Settings, turn on Keep Responses Anonymous to hide students’ names from the results, or Allow multiple submissions to let students answer more than once.
3

Save or cancel

Click Update Survey to save your changes, or Cancel to leave without saving.
Students see an Anonymous label on anonymous surveys before they answer, so they know their name won’t appear in the results.

Read the results

Click View Analytics on a survey’s card. Under Survey Analytics, the summary cards show:
  • Submitted — how many enrolled students have answered, out of the class total
  • Missing — how many haven’t answered yet
  • Submissions — the total number of responses, including repeats
  • Avg Attempts — the average number of responses per student
Question Analytics then shows a result for each question:
  • Rating questions show the Latest average and a chart of how the ratings spread out, plus a trend line once there are responses over time.
  • Multiple choice questions show a bar for each option.
  • Short answer questions list each written response with the student’s name and the date.
For surveys that aren’t anonymous, Respondent Analytics lists each student with their attempts and, when they’ve answered more than once, how their answers changed. At the bottom, Submissions lists every response in full. Anonymous surveys show Responses anonymous and hide names throughout. Click Back to Surveys to return to the list.
