Video walkthrough

This walkthrough uses the real DeanDesk interface with the fictional Northstar Academy demo school and a calm, AI-generated English voice. Payments and outside services are not connected in the demo.
The Assignments tab in the course sidebar lists all the work set for the course. As the course teacher, you create and manage assignments here, open each one to see what students have handed in, and grade submissions without leaving the course.

The assignment list

Open Assignments in the course sidebar. Each assignment appears as a card showing:
  • its title, with a Quiz or Discussion tag when it isn’t a standard assignment
  • Due: with the due date and time, flagged (Due soon) or (Overdue) when relevant
  • Points: the total points
  • the section it belongs to, if your course uses sections
  • the first lines of its instructions
Click View Details to open an assignment. Graded discussion assignments show Open Discussion instead, which takes you to the discussion thread.
You see Create Assignment at the top of the page and a three-dot menu on every card. The page lists every assignment in the course.

Create an assignment

Click Create Assignment and choose Standard assignment or Quiz. Add a title, instructions, an optional due date and time, and the total points, then click Save assignment. The new assignment appears in the list and in students’ course view. The Assignments guide covers every builder option, including grade categories, sections, supporting materials, and quiz questions.

Edit or delete an assignment

1

Open the card menu

Click the three-dot menu on the assignment’s card.
2

Choose an action

Choose Edit Assignment to change its details, or Delete Assignment to remove it.
3

Confirm a deletion

Deleting asks you to confirm. Click Delete to remove the assignment, or Cancel to keep it.
Deleting an assignment can’t be undone.

Review submissions

Click View Details on a card to open the assignment page. Click Back to Course to return to the course. At the top you see the due date, the total points, and how much time students have left. Below that:
  • Class Performance groups the class results. Open Class Summary to see how many students have submitted, the number of attempts, and the average latest score and percentage. Student Analytics shows each student’s attempts and score changes. Export CSV downloads the results as a spreadsheet.
  • Student Submissions lists each submission with the student’s name, when it was submitted, its status, the text response, and any attached files. Click a file to download it.
For quizzes, each row has View Submission, or Review & Grade when an answer needs your review, which opens the full attempt.

Grade a submission

1

Find the student's row

On the assignment page, find the student in the Student Submissions table.
2

Enter a score and feedback

Type the points in Score and add optional comments in Feedback. You can also upload a marked-up file under Attach Graded File (Optional).
3

Submit the grade

Click Submit Grade. The status changes to Graded with the score, and the button becomes Update Grade so you can change it later.
Grades you save here appear in the course gradebook, so you only enter them once. Students see their score and feedback on the assignment page.
Quizzes grade themselves when students submit. You only need to review attempts marked Review & Grade.
