Video walkthrough

This walkthrough uses the real DeanDesk interface with the fictional Northstar Academy demo school and a calm, AI-generated English voice. Payments and outside services are not connected in the demo.
DeanDesk AI is the admin assistant built into your school portal. Its button floats on every page while you’re signed in as an admin. It can answer questions about your school and take action inline — sending emails, building quizzes, creating pages, and more — so you don’t have to switch tools.

Open the chat

Click the floating Ask DeanDesk AI button (the sparkle icon) on the right edge of the screen. The chat opens full screen, with your past conversations on the left. You can drag the button up or down, or to the other side of the screen, if it covers something you need. Click Close chat to return to the page you were on. When you start a new chat, the assistant shows How can I help today? with suggestions such as Review school setup, Set up a new course, and Draft a quiz. Click one to send it, or type in the Message DeanDesk AI… box.

What the assistant can do

Send emails in chat

Tell the assistant who should receive the email, its subject, and what it should say. If the final subject, message, or audience needs your approval, the assistant presents those details in chat. You can request changes before approving. Once you authorize the final email, the assistant sends it through DeanDesk and reports the result, including any failed recipients. There is no separate email composer or Send Email button in the chat. You can also ask for a draft without sending it. The assistant shows that draft as a normal chat reply.

Inline Quiz Editor

Ask the assistant to draft a quiz (e.g. “draft a 10-question multiple choice quiz on the water cycle for 4th graders”) and it renders an Inline Quiz Editor in the chat with the proposed questions, choices, and correct answers. Edit any question, then click Create Quiz to save it to a course of your choice.

Inline Page Builder

Ask the assistant to build a school page, such as a public welcome page. The Inline Page Builder Card shows the page preview, title, slug, audience roles, and draft/published state. Use Publish to publish the saved draft from chat, or Open Page Editor to refine blocks, HTML, typography, and layout in the page editor. See Pages for details on the page editor.

Attach images

Click Attach images or paste images into the composer to ask about a screenshot, reference design, or other visual. Review the attachment and your request before sending. Image messages are retained with the conversation so you can return to the same context later.

Conversation history

Every conversation is saved per admin. Past conversations are listed on the left, grouped by Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days, and Older. Click one to resume it, or click New chat to start over. If the list is hidden, click Show conversation history.

Model selection

Use the AI model picker at the top of the chat to choose a model:
  • Sonnet — fast and capable (the default)
  • Opus — most capable
  • Haiku — fastest
Faster models work well for routine lookups. More capable models do better on multi-step tasks like drafting a long quiz or designing a page.
Use DeanDesk AI as a “second monitor” for routine tasks: while you’re reviewing applications, ask it to draft acceptance emails. While you’re grading, ask it to summarize a student’s progress for a parent.
