> This walkthrough uses the real DeanDesk interface with the fictional Northstar Academy demo school and a calm, AI-generated English voice. Payments and outside services are not connected in the demo. The **Announcements** tab is where you post updates for your whole class: schedule changes, reminders, and anything every student needs to see. Each announcement notifies enrolled students, and students can reply underneath it.Open your course and choose **Announcements** in the course menu.## What you seeAnnouncements are listed newest first, with **pinned** announcements always at the top. Each card shows the title, who posted it, when, and the full message. Click a card to open the announcement and its responses.**Teachers**You see **Create Announcement** and a three-dot menu on each card. As the course teacher you can edit or delete any announcement in your course, not only your own.**Students**Students see the same list without **Create Announcement** or the card menu. They can open an announcement and post a response.**Parents**Parents viewing a child's course can read announcements and responses but cannot respond on the child's behalf.## Post an announcement**1. Start a new announcement**Click **Create Announcement**. The **Create New Announcement** dialog opens.**2. Write it**Enter a **Title** and the **Content**. Keep the title short and specific: students see it in their notifications and in the email subject line.**3. Pin it if needed**Turn on **Pin this announcement** to keep it at the top of the list. Pinned announcements show a **Pinned** label, and up to three of them also appear under **Important Announcements** on the course **Overview**.**4. Post it**Click **Create**. The announcement appears in the list right away.### Who is notifiedPosting notifies every actively enrolled student:* **In-app notification** in their notification feed on the web and mobile app.
* **Email** to their address. For a child account that can't receive email, the email goes to the parent with the child's name in the subject.
* **Push notification** on a signed-in mobile device with notifications turned on. See [Push notifications](/mobile/push-notifications.md).> [!WARNING]
>
> Notifications go out as soon as you click **Create**. Check the title and content before you post.## Read and answer responsesOpen an announcement to see the full post and its **Responses** below it.1) Click **Add Response**.
2) Write your reply and click **Post Response**.Each response notifies the class: every actively enrolled student and the course teacher get an in-app notification and an email, except the person who wrote it. Use **Back to Course** to return to the course.> [!TIP]
>
> Responses work well for quick questions about one announcement. For ongoing or graded conversations, use the course [Discussions](/teaching/discussions.md) tab. For real-time messages, use [Chat](/teaching/chat.md).## Edit, unpin, or deleteClick the three-dot menu on an announcement card, or next to the title on the announcement page.- **Edit** changes the title, content, or pin setting. Turn off **Pin this announcement** to unpin it, then click **Update**.
- **Delete** permanently removes the announcement and all of its responses. You'll be asked to confirm.Editing an announcement does not send new notifications.## Hide the tabIf your course doesn't use announcements, you can hide the tab: click **Edit Course** and turn off **Announcements** under **Course sidebar**.## Related- [Announcements across courses and programs](/communication/announcements.md)
